We’re now seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join our Surveying Services team and play a key role in diagnosing building issues, delivering small works, and ensuring a professional, customer‑focused surveying service across our housing stock.
Ideally you will be based in our area of operation which is mainly around Bucks, Beds, Berks, Herts, with some properties in Cambs and Greater London.

About the role
As a Building Surveyor, you’ll deliver expert technical inspections, identify building defects, prepare clear technical recommendations and ensure works are completed to a high standard. You will support compliance with key housing regulations, contribute to contract management activities, and play an important role in ensuring positive outcomes for residents.
Working closely with colleagues across Property Services, Customer & Neighbourhood teams, contractors, consultants and regulatory partners, you’ll be central to ensuring our homes remain safe, well‑maintained and fit for the future.
Key responsibilities
Technical Surveys & Inspections
Carry out a wide range of property inspections including damp and mould, disrepair, void assessments, FRA remedials, environmental health concerns, energy efficiency and general condition.
Diagnose defects and prepare accurate technical recommendations, schedules of work and specifications.
Support reviews of structural and non‑structural alteration requests and undertake post‑inspections.
Provide technical input into new‑build quality concerns and defect management.
Compliance & Regulation
Ensure compliance with HHSRS, Decent Homes, FFH, building regulations and CDM 2015.
Produce high‑quality reports within agreed templates, standards and KPIs.
Provide clear, reliable technical advice to support safe and compliant decisions.
Project & Contract Management
Manage small works projects from specification through to completion.
Support contract administration, including JCT-related tasks, and monitor contractor performance.
Oversee consultants and contractors to ensure quality, safety and value for money.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Communicate findings professionally with residents, colleagues, local authorities and partners.
Build positive working relationships across teams to support timely resolution of property issues.
Contribute to strong customer satisfaction and positive resident outcomes.
Team Contribution & Professional Growth
Support team KPIs, SLAs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Share knowledge with colleagues and maintain your own CPD.
Respond proportionately and promptly to urgent site issues.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for someone who reflects our values, takes pride in their professional standards and is committed to delivering excellent services to our residents.
Must haves:
HND in Building Construction or a degree in Building Surveying
Strong experience conducting property surveys and diagnosing building defects
Ability to prepare specifications, schedules and detailed reports
Knowledge of JCT contracts, CDM 2015 and housing standards
Competence in assessing HHSRS compliance
Strong diagnostic, organisational and problem‑solving skills
Experience monitoring contractors or consultants
Good IT skills and confidence with financial assessments
Physically capable of undertaking site inspections
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Nice to haves:
MRICS or MCIOB (or working towards)
Experience working within social housing

annual salary: £49,881 p/a

Working Hours & Additional Pay
Standard hours are 37 p/w 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Friday
